Companies like Danaher have done the same thing and lost. Bayer was all about rigid process and record keeping and uniformity. It took them about 10 years before they knew they were losing with diagnostics and were likely to continue to do so. Took them around 5-6 years to find a buyer. Now it's Siemens' turn. They bought three at once and were #1 in diagnostics. Now they are #4 in a game with 4 major players. Rumor has it they are shopping diagnostics and maybe larger parts of healthcare. All because the new company knew better. They never took the time to analyze the economics of diagnostics. And it sounds like Danaher is making the exact same mistake. I guess some people never learn.
