You should apply for both.
This is what happens when you apply for a job in industry.
Your CV goes into a big pile, and the hiring manager based on some criteria that in known only to him will pick a few to screen. Since you may be completing against 100s of other candidates, your chances of getting picked are slim unless your CV is extraordinary. It really does you little harm to apply for multiple positions and often HR will triage your application to another position.
One word of warning. If you do get picked and really blow the interview badly you will never get a second chance.
